From passion to pasta: the journey of Desìo

Every great Italian eatery has a story to tell. Ours begins with a simple belief: that authentic Italian food should be accessible to everyone, every day.

The Beginning

Desìo was born from a simple dream: to bring the warmth and authenticity of Italian home cooking to the heart of Groningen. Founded by passionate food lovers who believed that great Italian food shouldn't be reserved for special occasions, but should be part of everyday life.

From our first day, we've been committed to using only the finest ingredients, traditional recipes, and preparing everything fresh daily. No shortcuts, no compromises – just authentic Italian flavors made with love and served with pride.

Our Journey

2019

The Adventure Begins

Pietro and Paolo Guliminelli (25) move from Milan to Groningen for what was supposed to be a short visit. They packed their kitchen clothes "just in case" and ended up staying much longer than planned.

2019-2024

Learning & Growing

Both brothers work in Groningen restaurants, gaining experience. Pietro meets Nadia (24) from Naples, and Paolo works as chef at vegan restaurant Achterwerk and later Cicci's, while Pietro works at Gustatio.

2024

From Michelin to Groningen

With experience from Michelin restaurants like Enrico Bartolini in Milan, the brothers decide to bring authentic Italian cuisine to Groningen in a more accessible way.

July 2025

Desìo Opens

Pietro and Nadia open Desìo on the corner of Herestraat and Zuiderdiep, offering Italian food with pasta varieties and schiacciata options.

Today

Authentic Italian, Made Simple

Continuing to serve Groningen with traditional Italian recipes made the way Pietro and Paolo learned at home, with fresh pasta from Italian producers and sauces made from scratch every day.

Meet the Founders

Pietro, Paolo & Nadia

Twin brothers Pietro and Paolo Guliminelli (25) from Milan bring their Michelin restaurant experience to Groningen, while Nadia (24) from Naples handles the digital side. Having started cooking at age 5 in their family kitchen, they now create the same authentic Italian dishes they grew up with, making them accessible to everyone in Groningen.
