OUR STORY
Our name Desìo comes from the Latin root desiderium, which literal meaning is ‘ceasing to contemplate the stars’.
It means longing for, regret for what is absent.
We don't want to make you feel that way.
Desìo was born from a simple dream:
to bring the warmth and authenticity of Italian home cooking to the heart of Groningen.
Founded by passionate food lovers who believe that great Italian food shouldn't be reserved for special occasions, but part of everyday life.
Every dish is crafted with the same love and attention to detail you would find in a traditional Italian kitchen. We use timeless recipes, fresh pasta, and focaccia made with ingredients selected for their authentic Italian quality.
Our journey

Pietro moved from Milan to Groningen with his brother for what was supposed to be a short visit. They packed their cooking clothes 'just in case' and ended up staying much longer than planned.
A couple of years later, Nadia did pretty much the same, moving from Naples to Groningen for what was supposed to be only one semester abroad.

Pietro and Nadia meet through friends, share passions and vision. They started an online business with one goal: to make enough money to open a restaurant. It took those two introverts a long time to finally talk about how they feel. (First work, then fun, I guess).

In late May 2025, the couple were planning to move out of Groningen in an attempt to achieve their goal elsewhere. However, an opportunity then arose in the form of a beautiful monumental building for rent on the corner of Herestraat and Zuiderdiep.

After months of hard work and unwavering support for each other, Desìo Restaurant is opening on 11 July 2025! We’ve poured our hearts and souls into creating a place where passion and tradition are in perfect harmony. Prepare to indulge in our delicious pasta, crispy schiacciate and tasty tiramisù.
